{"id":589,"date":"2008-04-15T06:49:00","date_gmt":"2008-04-15T06:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mhgoldberg.com\/blog\/?p=589"},"modified":"2017-01-25T10:01:27","modified_gmt":"2017-01-25T15:01:27","slug":"doing-what-they-do-best","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mhgoldberg.com\/blog\/?p=589","title":{"rendered":"Doing what they do best"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 0px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ccnmatthews.com\/logos\/20070405-COG_200.JPG\" alt=\"Cogeco\" border=\"0\" \/>For some people, success comes from recognizing what you do well and sticking to it.<\/p>\n<p>For some reason, listening to the testimony of Cogeco CEO Louis Audet at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crtc.gc.ca\/Broadcast\/eng\/HEARINGS\/2008\/04_08ag.htm\">BDU hearings<\/a> brought to mind a line by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-almanac.com\/players\/player.php?p=krukjo01\">John Kruk<\/a> of the Philadelphia Phillies, when he was being admonished by a woman for his unkempt appearance during the World Series.<\/p>\n<p>She said that as an athlete, he should think about being a better role model.<\/p>\n<p>He responded, &#8220;<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">I&#8217;m not an athlete. I&#8217;m a professional baseball player.<\/span>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Audet pointed out during his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crtc.gc.ca\/eng\/transcripts\/2008\/tb0414.htm\">appearance<\/a> that, unique among the major cable companies, Cogeco doesn&#8217;t have any specialty broadcast stations in its stable. Cogeco sticks to doing what it does best &#8211; running a cable company.<\/p>\n<p>Looking through the list of <a href=\"https:\/\/mhgoldberg.com\/blog\/?p=599\">qualified bidders for the AWS spectrum auction<\/a>, we can see a lot of cable companies: Eastlink, Videotron, Shaw, Rogers &#8211; even small Manitoba cable company, Westman &#8211; but no Cogeco.<\/p>\n<p>Cogeco isn&#8217;t sitting idly watching the world go by.
