{"id":5820,"date":"2012-09-30T11:11:05","date_gmt":"2012-09-30T15:11:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mhgoldberg.com\/blog\/?p=5820"},"modified":"2012-09-30T13:15:46","modified_gmt":"2012-09-30T17:15:46","slug":"is-dncl-worth-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mhgoldberg.com\/blog\/?p=5820","title":{"rendered":"Is DNCL worth it?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four years ago, the CRTC launched the National Do Not Call List (&#8220;DNCL&#8221;), as it\u00a0acknowledged\u00a0in a tweet earlier today:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet tw-align-center\"><p>On September 30, 2008, the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search\/%23CRTC\">#CRTC<\/a> launched the National Do Not Call List to help reduce the number of telemarketing calls.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CRTCeng (@CRTCeng) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CRTCeng\/status\/252418735762190336\" data-datetime=\"2012-09-30T14:44:50+00:00\">September 30, 2012<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script charset=\"utf-8\" type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\"><\/script>The DNCL was implemented &#8220;to help reduce the number of telemarketing calls.&#8221; Is it working?<\/p>\n<p>Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/szHIyF\" target=\"_blank\">latest status report<\/a> from the CRTC. There have been more than 600,000 complaints filed. But there have only been 191 citations issued to date, leading to 56 notices of violations, which in turn drove 43 fines and 4 alternate settlements. Despite complaints\u00a0growing at more than 15,000 per month, there were only 4 new investigations opened in the past quarter and there are less than 140 open investigations.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, we have had some high profile fines and settlements.
