If there is, indeed, any gatekeeping activity on the Internet, which is questionable, the gatekeeping is being performed by the Internet search engines, which are typically the users\u2019 \u201cwindow\u201d to the near-infinite content available worldwide. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It appears that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/07\/16\/AR2008071602500.html\">reports<\/a> [see also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moconews.net\/entry\/419-gphone-is-just-a-rumor-android-developer-discontent-is-real\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/businesscenter\/article\/148505\/google_offers_android_updates_only_to_contest_winners.html\">here<\/a>] are also suggesting that Google is taking on the role of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gbfans.com\/ghostbusters\/characters\/zuul\/\">Zuul<\/a> in trickling out its software development kit for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/businesscenter\/article\/148505\/google_offers_android_updates_only_to_contest_winners.html\">Android phones<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In its comments on the CAIP \/ Bell spat, <a href=\"http:\/\/crtc.gc.ca\/public\/partvii\/2008\/8622\/c51_200805153_1\/923481.pdf\">Google said<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-size: 85%; color: rgb(102, 102, 102); text-align: justify;\"><p>Google\u2019s business is premised on making its services, content and applications available through the internet to any end user who chooses them, without restriction by any gatekeeper. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Maybe they meant &#8220;any gatekeeper, other than Google itself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Who you gonna call?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 204, 0);font-size:78%;\">Technorati Tags:<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tag\/Bell\" rel=\"tag\">Bell<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tag\/Google\" rel=\"tag\">Google<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/technorati.com\/tag\/CAIP\" rel=\"tag\">CAIP<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In its official Answer to the CAIP application for Bell to cease network management of its DSL lines, Bell suggested that Google is the real internet gatekeeper.
