{"id":495,"date":"2008-07-21T08:02:00","date_gmt":"2008-07-21T08:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mhgoldberg.com\/blog\/?p=495"},"modified":"2017-01-25T07:21:24","modified_gmt":"2017-01-25T12:21:24","slug":"crtc-converges-its-policy-and-research-groups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mhgoldberg.com\/blog\/?p=495","title":{"rendered":"CRTC converges its policy and research groups"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Effective today, the CRTC begins operating with a new <a href=\"http:\/\/crtc.gc.ca\/eng\/NEWS\/RELEASES\/2008\/i080715.htm\">converged organizational structure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Activities common to both sides of the Commission, broadcasting and telecom, will be grouped under the Policy Development and Research sector, under Namir Anani&#8217;s leadership. This will include social policy and dispute resolution. Accessibility issues, currently under the Telecom group moves to a new social policy group in the sector, combined with social policy functions from Broadcasting.<\/p>\n<p>Telemarketing issues (such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/crtc.gc.ca\/eng\/dncl.htm\">DNCL<\/a>) will also be transferred to this organization. The Policy Development and Research sector will be responsible for conducting economic analysis on the communications industries, markets and technologies, and will process ownership and acquisitions applications.<\/p>\n<p>The CRTC has <a href=\"https:\/\/mhgoldberg.com\/blog\/?p=660\">talked previously<\/a> about a converged Communications Act to replace the Broadcast Act and Telecom Act.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Effective today, the CRTC begins operating with a new converged organizational structure.
