{"id":3789,"date":"2010-08-04T06:37:17","date_gmt":"2010-08-04T10:37:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mhgoldberg.com\/blog\/?p=3789"},"modified":"2010-08-03T15:58:55","modified_gmt":"2010-08-03T19:58:55","slug":"competing-on-the-high-end","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mhgoldberg.com\/blog\/?p=3789","title":{"rendered":"Competing on the high end"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, Rogers announced the launch of its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chatrwireless.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chatr<\/a> brand, aimed at the lower price\u00a0end of the market.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, there were two announcements from TELUS that point to the other end of the spectrum:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ht.ly\/2kik0\" target=\"_blank\">Dual Cell<\/a> mobile data to offer speeds of up to 42Mbps; and<\/li>\n<li>a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/telus-and-edgecast-networks-bring-global-content-delivery-to-canadian-market-2010-08-03\" target=\"_blank\">Content Delivery Network<\/a> partnership agreement with Edgecast.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These announcements seem to point to TELUS increasing the state of competition at the high end of the telecommunications market, with advanced services for mobile and internet hosting.<\/p>\n<p>As I mentioned to <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/cRQDt5\" target=\"_blank\">Network World<\/a>,\u00a0when asked to comment on the Dual Cell announcement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>increasing [market] share doesn\u2019t always mean dropping your prices; investment may allow you to increase your average revenue per user<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A healthy competitive marketplace\u00a0can be characterized by vibrant competition among various service providers, including investment in innovative new products\u00a0and technologies.
