{"id":236,"date":"2009-05-13T06:32:00","date_gmt":"2009-05-13T06:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mhgoldberg.com\/blog\/?p=236"},"modified":"2009-05-13T06:32:00","modified_gmt":"2009-05-13T06:32:00","slug":"attack-of-the-robo-dialers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mhgoldberg.com\/blog\/?p=236","title":{"rendered":"Attack of the robo-dialers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not sure why people are convinced that evil telemarketers are buying copies of the national do not call list in order to target those people who are least likely to respond to a call.<\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t it far more likely that companies that are violating the telemarketing rules are simply using robo-dialers to sequentially call every number? That would be far more efficient than precisely targeting the wrong people. <\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t just a Canadian story. See the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20090512\/ap_on_bi_ge\/us_car_warranty_calls_2\">story<\/a> about how the US Senate is responding to these calls. The two annoying robotic calls that I get are from the car warranty and the credit card interest scammers. I think the way to prosecute them is that there is clearly false advertising.
