The phone is GPRS\/EDGE and WiFi enabled.<\/p>\n<p>It appears to be an attractive package, manufactured for T-Mobile by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.america.htc.com\/products\/dash.html\">High Tech Computer<\/a>. It may provide a consumer grade alternative to Blackberry or other similar devices. The device runs Microsoft Windows Mobile applications, includes a still and video camera and music player.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.t-mobile.com\/shop\/phones\/Detail.aspx?device=f164419f-eee9-4cf6-a1bd-070dbe4b5023\">T-Mobile<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"text-align: justify; color: rgb(102, 102, 102);\"><p><span style=\"font-size:85%;\">Everything you need to stay connected, all in one sleek package. Send, receive, and reply to your personal and business e-mail easily with a full QWERTY keyboard and the convenience of Microsoft\u00ae Office Outlook\u00ae Mobile. View photos, videos, and large attachments, and share them with others or browse the Web using super fast Wi-Fi connectivity. All of this in a slim Windows Mobile\u00ae Smartphone that&#8217;s comfortable to hold and provides crystal-clear calling.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Why would T-Mobile introduce such a device and what inhibits the launch of a similar product in Canada?<\/p>\n<p>Clearly, there are different market conditions in the United States. Among them:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>T-Mobile operates an extensive network of <a href=\"http:\/\/hotspot.t-mobile.com\/\">WiFi hotspots<\/a> &#8211; claimed to be the world&#8217;s largest <a href=\"https:\/\/selfcare.hotspot.t-mobile.com\/locations\/viewLocationMap.do\">private WiFi network<\/a> &#8211; and the network is a differentiator. Canada&#8217;s wireless carriers <a href=\"http:\/\/cwta.ca\/CWTASite\/english\/whatsnew_download\/may25_05.html\">agreed to intercarrier WiFi roaming<\/a>, expanding reach but at a cost of competitive differentiation.<\/li>\n<li>The US cellular market has more flat rate plans available to consumers &#8211; WiFi provides opportunities for network cost reductions for suitably equipped carriers. If consumers are going to consume lots of minutes or bytes for a fixed price, the winning carrier will be the low cost network operator.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>T-Mobile can leverage its WiFi network assets to reduce its cost to serve customers and acquire customers with an offering that cannot easily be replicated by its competitors.<\/p>\n<p>Only in America? Hardly.
