A new idea, method, process. <em>Synonyms<\/em>: change \u00b7 alteration \u00b7 revolution \u00b7 upheaval \u00b7 transformation \u00b7 metamorphosis \u00b7 breakthrough \u00b7 new measures \u00b7 new methods \u00b7 modernization \u00b7 novelty \u00b7 newness \u00b7 creativity \u00b7 originality \u00b7 ingenuity \u00b7 inspiration \u00b7 inventiveness \u00b7 a shake up<\/p>\n<p>Dictionaries may be able to define the term, but that doesn&#8217;t easily translate into concrete action plans for a government to lead an economic transformation. <\/p>\n<p>Innovation has been a focus for the Government of Canada&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/j.mp\/2m3VQtD\" target=\"_blank\">policy agenda<\/a>, triggering a consultation that was distilled into a <a href=\"http:\/\/j.mp\/2m479Ce\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> [or <a href=\"http:\/\/j.mp\/2m407x0\" target=\"_blank\">pdf version<\/a>, 2.4MB].<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>At its most basic, innovation is about making things better in ways that benefit everyone. Innovation isn&#8217;t always based on technology. Any idea can be transformed into a simple solution that results in new products or services. Innovations can create entirely new jobs, markets and industries that never existed before.
